Couch's House, Polperro  (back to search)

Couch's House is a most welcome addition to our portfolio for 2024. An historic property Couch's House was once the home of Johnathan Couch a noted 19th Century British Naturalist who lived in the cottage from 1810 until his death in 1870. The cottage has been restored to provide a very comfortable and character filled home which reflects the style and feel of the home that Johnathan Couch would have lived in, but with all the modern utilities we now take for granted. The bathroom features a roll top 'tin bath' and there is also a walk in shower. The cottage has three double bedrooms, one which features a wonderfully ornate Four Poster Bed. The lounge and dining areas both feature log burners, there is a downstairs cloakroom off the dining area, and the well equipped kitchen has a Range Oven with two ovens and a warming space and two large hot plates (full instructions on how to operate it are included, it is electric and it is quite simple to use). There is an Esse oven with hot plates in the parlour which is fuelled by logs. There is a dishwasher, combined washer/dryer. fridge, freezer, microwave, coffee machine, iron/ironing board and all the utensils needed to self cater. There is a small outside area where you can see the River Pol running by and includes bench seating. Couch's House has allocated parking in the main Polperro Car Park included in the rental. Up to 2 dogs are welcome free of charge. Logs are available locally for the log burners. Heating is provided throughout the cottage via electric radiators. Due to the nature of the cottage please be advised it is not suitable for children under the age of 5 years, are therefore they are not allowed. COUPLES DISCOUNTS:- Couples only discounts (which means the double Four Poster bedroom only will be available) are available for stays from the week after the Easter period up to the end of October, with the exception of School Holidays (Whitsun week and the Summer School Holidays). Discounts of £100 off a full week stay and £50 off a short break are available at these times and can be claimed by calling Giles in our Polperro office when you wish to book. Tel:- 01503 272 320. The cottage is a traditional layout with the living areas on the ground floor and bedrooms/bathroom on the first floor. There is a separate cloakroom on the ground floor off the dining area.
